Project:

Shared Snowmobile Garages

Responsibilities:

Shared Snowmobile Garages is a humble design proposal that suggests ways to engage with the daily practices of Inuit in Nunavik using only the materials at hand. This proposal avoids aligning with the institutionalized inadequacy of previous top-down ‘solutions’, instead emerging from a DIY hacker mindset that is simple, frugal and inclusive. An ongoing conversation with locals was integral to the competition proposal’s success and gave the team a rare opportunity to brainstorm with people who really know what it’s like to live in such communities. The structures work to reground Inuits’ sensitive relationship with the land while also creating denser community nodes that support a culture of sharing and teaching.
